What Makes A Dog Treat Truly High Quality? (And Why It Matters To Your Pooch)

Let’s be honest; your dog would probably scoff down an old sock if it smelled like chicken. But just because they’ll eat anything doesn’t mean they should and that’s where our high-quality treats come in.

At Moochin’ Pooch, we’re on a mission to sniff out the best bites out there. Treats that are not only tail-waggingly tasty, but also made with ingredients you can actually trust. Because your fur baby deserves better than a mystery meat medley or god forbid a rawhide bundle from Home Bargains!

What Is a High-Quality Dog Treat?

When we choose treats for our online shop, we look for more than just good branding and cute packaging. Here’s what we really care about:

Real, Recognisable Ingredients

You should be able to read the label and know exactly what your dog’s eating. We choose treats made with real meat, vegetables, fruits, and natural additions like herbs or oats.

🚫 Why We Avoid Cereals and Meat Derivatives 🚫

Cereals

This is a vague, covers-all term that usually means cheap fillers like wheat, maize or rice by-products. They’re not inherently harmful, but they often add bulk without much nutritional benefit and aren't great; especially for dogs with grain sensitivities.

If a treat lists "cereals" instead of naming the actual grain it’s often a sign the manufacturer isn’t being transparent.

We like to know exactly what’s going into your dog’s belly and we’re guessing you do too!

Meat and Animal Derivatives

This one's even trickier. "Meat derivatives" is a polite way of saying "any leftover animal parts we could find." It could mean anything from beaks to bones to trimmings and you’ll never know which.

This lack of transparency makes it hard to judge quality, and even harder if your pup has allergies or dietary needs. We’d rather stick with clearly labelled items like “chicken breast” or “lamb liver” hence the good stuff.

Why It Matters!

Treats aren’t just rewards. They’re part of your dog’s daily intake and over time, lower-quality ingredients can lead to various issues:

Digestive upsets

Itchy skin or allergies

Weight gain

Long-term health conditions

On the other hand; high-quality treats support your dog’s vitality, coat, mood and even training success. ( And let’s face it dogs will sit, stay, and roll over A LOT faster for something genuinely delicious.)

Moochin’ Pooch's Aim

We promise to never stock anything we wouldn’t give to our own dog.

Moochin’ Pooch treats are thoughtfully sourced, nutritionally sound and 100% drool-worthy. We spend hours carefully handpicking everything in our shop and if Callie wouldn’t eat it, we don’t sell it.
